The start of the twentieth century brought profound social, economic and political changes to Iran. These transformations became systematic and organised with the formal establishment of the Pahlavi dynasty in 1925. The historic 1978–79 revolution and the subsequent establishment of the Islamic Republic further transformed Iran along multiple lines, though in ways that could hardly have been anticipated at the start of the revolution in the late 1970s. ‘Iran from the Pahlavis to the Present’ covers this important era in Iran’s unfolding, ongoing history and politics.
