The Northumbrians w/ Dan Jackson at Hexham Book Festival

10 Jun 2021 – 19:30 BST
Hexham Book Festival, Slaley Village Hall/Allendale Village Hall

Join Dan Jackson for a talk on The Northumbrians, his new history of North East England.

Whitley-Bay born, he explores the roots of Northumbrian culture – hard work, heavy drinking, sociability, sentimentality, militarism and masculinity— in centuries of border warfare and demanding work in industry, at sea and underground. The Northumbrians have often been overlooked in British and global history, but have made astonishing contributions to both. From the Venerable Bede and the prince bishops of Durham to Admiral Collingwood, Viz and Geordie Shore, Jackson reveals a part of England whose future may be uncertain, but whose people remain as durable and remarkable as ever.

NB This event has sold out, however the Hexham Book Festival are delighted to announce that they’ll be live streaming to Allendale and Slaley village halls where you’ll be able to listen to Dan’s talk and then participate in the Q&A.  To book a place, please contact the village halls – links below.
