Hurst is looking for a publicity assistant to join the team, assisting with all aspects of publicity, from organising events and drafting press releases to pitching to media outlets. You will be working directly with the Head of Campaigns and Media Relations and will be involved in promoting all the books we publish – both trade and scholarly – and helping to build the Hurst brand.
The ideal candidate will be someone who brings new ideas to each campaign, spots opportunities in unlikely places, is up-to-date on current affairs, and can think of new angles to pitch a book to readers, whilst also handling the daily administration related to publicity. Strong organisational and writing skills, and attention to detail are important for this role, as is a genuine interest in the books we publish. The position will give you an opportunity to attend publicity meetings, and learn how to run a book campaign. Publicity experience is a bonus, but not necessary.
Responsibilities will include:
-managing paperback book campaigns
-writing press releases
-creating review lists
-organising and attending events
-pitching authors to media contacts, literary festivals, and event venues
-book prize submissions
-running social media with the sales and marketing assistant
-fielding media and author queries
Please submit a cover letter and CV to Alison Alexanian ([email protected]) by 7th June, 5pm. Interviews will be held on the 20th of June.
